PPT Logs

This chapter provides information on various log files that are created automatically at different locations on different instances by the PPT server, for example, at the time of PPT installation, PPT upgrading, etc.
The log files are generally meant for troubleshooting purposes and therefore the PPT logs also provide important information for troubleshooting purposes. This chapter includes the following topics:
note_smallImportant: The default log severity is set as “warning”. The PPT administrator can change the severity by updating/modifying the LOG_LEVEL in the ppt.cfg file located at the /etc directory.

Installation Logs
Installation logs are the log files that are created at the time of PPT software installation on the PPT server. For the installation logs, a folder with the same name of the PPT version xx.x.xx.x (e.g. 12.1.41.0) is maintained in the PPT installation directory <PPT_install_dir>.
Following is the list of log files created at the time of installation in the xx.x.xx.x directory:
note_smallImportant: The PolicyProvisioningTool_InstallLog.log log file corresponding to the current PPT software installation is stored at the PPT installation directory <PPT_install_dir>, however this log file is moved inside the xx.x.xx.x folder once the PPT software is upgraded/downgraded to different version.
Console.log
This log file is generated by the PPT installer and contains logs redirected from STDERR and STDOUT.
postgres.log
This log file is generated by PPT installer and captures Postgres installation logs.
PPT_Installer.log
This log file is generated by the InstallAnyhere module and contains details regarding installation steps and actions performed by the InstallAnywhere.
PolicyProvisioningTool_InstallLog.log
This log file is generated by InstallAnywhere and captures all events of installation process. It contains logs pertaining to the extraction of files from installer binary and records success/failure status of each event. Please note that this file is created in “<PPT_install_dir>/” directory. Later during PPT upgrade this file is moved to “</PPT_install_dir>/Install_logs/xx.x.xx.x”. directory where xx.x.xx.x stands for the PPT version being upgraded.

Running Logs
Running files are created and maintained by the PPT server for all the services and processes currently running on it.
Running log files are automatically created and maintained by PPT at /<PPT_install_dir>/server/logs directory. Following is the list of running log files:
ipcfpp.log_ipcfpp
This file contains PPT logs generated via Apache and PPT scripts.
ipcfpp.log_ipcfpp.lock
This is a lock file being used by PPT logger. It is for internal use by the PPT logger and is of no use for other PPT users.
traceback_info.log
This file is used to log trace back generated when an uncaught exception occurs in PPT.
